The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) recently acquired around 2,553 acres of land in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed tehsil of Muzaffargarh district to implement a 600MW solar power project.

The significant event occurred on Saturday, with the NTDC Director General (Land), Chief Engineer Project Delivery (North), and other important stakeholders attending the specified location for the solar power project.

This programme aligns with the Government of Pakistan’s dedication to decreasing reliance on expensive fuel-based power generation sources. The initiative seeks to improve energy sustainability and affordability by incorporating solar power, a renewable energy source, into the national grid.

In addition, NTDC is currently acquiring land for two further solar power projects, Layyah (1200MW) and Jhang (600MW). Upon their completion, these projects will cumulatively contribute 2,400 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity to the national energy system. This strategic development will address the increasing energy needs and substantially enhance the role of solar energy in the country’s primarily thermal energy blend.

This is a very positive development for Pakistan as moving towards solar energy can help the country eliminate expensive electricity. Comparatively, solar energy costs much less than other methods, such as thermal, hydel, etc. It will also help the consumers get cheap electricity.
