The Punjab government will introduce 20,000 electric bikes and 657 environmentally friendly urban buses in May. This initiative is in line with their dedication to sustainable transportation and improving the mobility of inhabitants.

The status of these transportation measures was thoroughly evaluated on Monday in a meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Emphasising the government’s responsibility to meet the people’s needs, the CM highlighted the aim of reducing the burden on citizens.

More precisely, the focus was on enhancing transportation accessibility for female students in Punjab. She further instructed starting a school bus initiative in each district and decreasing upfront payments for students.

The project would introduce electric bikes and diesel hybrid regenerated buses in major cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur. She also ordered the deployment of 657 buses to improve transportation infrastructure in major urban areas.

In addition, strategies were delineated to alleviate the financial strain of housing for low-income individuals, such as decreasing housing payments and establishing certain timeframes for allocating land for housing development in different areas. The Chief Minister also emphasised the significance of implementing strategies to reduce the overall affordability of housing.

The project will ensure less reliability on petrol, which is quite costly, and provide relief to low-income groups.
