Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is intensifying its efforts to enforce tax compliance, taking decisive steps such as issuing final notices to non-filers with warnings of potential repercussions. According to a news source, on January 10, these consequences may include suspending mobile SIM cards and disconnecting utility services.
The FBR is preparing to implement stringent measures against individuals who fail to file their taxes. In the initial phase, FBR will suspend mobile SIM card services registered under non-filers names. Within the month of January 2024, FBR is expected to complete all formalities to take down this strict action.
In the second phase, which will be worse, all the gas and electricity connections under the name of non-filers will be suspended. All these stringent measures show FBR’s commitment to bringing non-filers to the tax net.
FBR has not disclosed the exact date for this action. A senior member of FBR has, however, reported that it will be started during the month of January.
