This decision has come due to the severe air pollution issues which have affected different regions of the province. The primary culprits behind this bad smog situation are the burning of crop residue by farmers.

To counter the increasing smog crisis, the government urged citizens to wear facemasks for the next month and limit unnecessary outdoor activities. Experts also instructed parents to ensure that their children wear facemasks while going to school and college.

CM held a news conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. He highlighted that Thursday, November 9, is already a national holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Considering recommendations from environmental experts, CM announced the suspension of school and office operations across all districts in the Lahore Division, which includes Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib. Additionally, this holiday applies to specific areas in Gujranwala and neighboring regions on Friday, November 10.
