The Punjab government is planning a significant operation after Eid to clear all temporary and permanent encroachments. The plan will start with commercial areas, malls, and shopping centres in Lahore. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore, City District administrations, Lahore Parking Company, zonal/town municipal administrations, and other concerned authorities will join hands to lead the campaign.

The operation aims to free the designated parking spaces from vendors and property owners. Because they misuse them for purposes other than parking. To tackle the issue, the government will launch FIRs and criminal proceedings against anyone violating the law.

The Punjab Caretaker Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Barrister Azfar Ali Nasir, stated that commercial activities in parking spaces are the main cause of environmental pollution, smog, obstruction in walking, and other issues in the city.

The government wants to restore the city’s aesthetic and resolve these civic issues. Nine major roads will be turned into model roads by removing encroachments. It will ensure vehicles can park at designated parking lots.

The government plans to seal and impose hefty fines in case of any violation. Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa further stated that the operation aims to restore the city’s beauty, and the government will not tolerate business activity that causes civic issues.
