On Wednesday, the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) declared that it had nearly completed a massive undertaking by opening the Central Business District (CBD) Punjab Boulevard and Upper roads of the Centre Point and CBD underpass for drivers.
PCBDDA Executive Director (Technical) Riaz Hussain stated. “We are currently concentrating on the completion of underpass-1. It begins from Kalma Chowk Underpass, takes a right turn, and finally connects the CBD and the centre-point underpass leading to Firdaus market.”
Starting in December, the project comprises two components. The construction of the CBD Punjab Boulevard and the modification of the Kalma Chowk Underpass. The project aims to provide drivers with a signal-free journey from Barkat Market (Garden Town) to Cavalry via Kalma Chowk, Centre Point, and Lal Shahbaz Qalandar underpasses, as well as from Barkat Market to Mozang and Cantt via Kalma Chowk Underpass.
This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Lahore. It is part of a more significant effort to improve access to Lahore’s Central Business District (CBD). The CBD project is a major undertaking of the Punjab Government aimed at utilizing government-owned land for urban regeneration.
The government asserts that the district’s efforts will attract investors to the region and promote economic development in the province. The project is a much-needed addition to the city’s infrastructure to help streamline traffic flow, benefitting locals and commuters alike.
